Fibromyalgia and leg pain. Everyone should know.

Do you suffer with fibromyalgia leg pain? Is the pain that is associated with the contest points and trigger points on multiple sites? Although we often refer to them as  points  competition, they are actually  AREAS  quite tender.

I still have to find someone with fibromyalgia who simply has a    POINT   of pain or sensitivity. (However, both the sensitive points and areas of generalized pain still used for the diagnosis) and because the sensitive points differ from the trigger points, see also the article ‘trigger points’ for a more in-depth TRP discussion      on fibromyalgia s.

Now, most people with fibrous describe a “zone” of pain that radiates to adjacent tendons or trigger points. Often there is an involvement with a tendon, ligament or   associated TRP (trigger point). This is what causes the pain to radiate or enlarge.

Take for example the tender points inside the knee. This area can extend an average of 2-4 inches above and below the inside of the knee. So, it really makes more sense to refer to calling this an   AREA    pain, especially when it comes to work solutions. Yes, there are many tender points at the lower end of the fibrous body.

Certain Activities of Daily Living (ADL) may exacerbate the pain in the fibromyalgia leg

Examples are sitting for long periods of standing in a place, displacement or change in weight while standing, driving, traveling, cleaning activities, etc.

What else can exacerbate the pain in the legs of fibromyalgia? Trigger points, inactivity, loss of muscle mass, low back pain, sciatica, joint involvement, certain medications, flu / cold and more. The interesting thing about fibromyalgia related to leg pain is that it does not matter if you are standing, sitting or lying down.

The propensity for pain in the lower quadrant of the fibrous body is greater only because of the trigger points intertwined in the muscle layers and extremely sensitive areas that are not directly related to any activity or exercise.

This results in fibromyalgia leg pain when strength and agility are lost.

The longer and more extensively used muscle in the leg (also known as the sartorius muscle in the quadriceps area) is responsible for much of our mobility in the lower quadrant of the fibrous body. Here in the adjacent image I have hi-lited these areas that cause more pain in the lower fibro body.

When conditioned from that muscle and surrounding muscles, everything around that area also weakens, including tendons and ligaments.

Agility can be lost and these “zones” of interest even wider (as shown in the next chart), with the pain of tender points spreading both above and below the location of the actual point within the knee.

Sensitive points within the gluteal area may also radiate pain in the leg, often on the sides and back of the legs. Hip and leg pain can result because of the Illiotibial band (outer legs) that extends from the hip area on one side of each leg and when this area is tight it can cause throbbing and severe stiffness.

Weakness and / or butter in hip abductors can also cause extreme stiffness and decreased mobility. Illiotibial syndrome (ITBS band   ) can occur in athletes through repetition and overuse, but this painful condition is not uncommon for people with fibromyalgia.

Now is when there is some controversy. Is the fibro is getting worse, or are those points / areas of the fibrous body becoming weaker? Are you suffering with chronic myofascial pain at the top of fibromyalgia? This may be the reason why you feel that leg pain is worsening as there are many layers of trigger points in the lower body.

One thing to consider with fibromyalgia and leg pain is that any position that stays too long, such as sitting or standing, can increase pain and trigger trigger points   . The sensitive points will always be there on some level, but they are the trigger points that are activated by repetitive motions or that are in a very long position.

I say that many times, I recommend not sitting too long in the morning. When we stay in bed to sit down early in the morning, this only creates more stiffness in the lower back, hips, legs and knees.

I had to start thinking outside the box and this is when I started to create specific fibro exercises and start working with my fibromyalgia pain in the legs in a way I had not done before. This does not mean that we can “heal” all pain through body conditioning, but when strength and agility are lost, everything suffers. So now we must look at what will counteract this phenomenon that has become so common in fibro today.

Consistent conditioning for the fibrous body

People ask “how to do exercises with fibro?” However, the biggest question should be “how not?” This is never all or nothing.

Of course I understood. But look, we must address this condition in terms of conditioning, pain relief not just temporary. Essentially, we want and need to create more long-term pain relief   and subsequent independence with age with a chronic illness.

This is well verified and I have become a physical trainer and have studied extensively to create exercise routines and at the same time incorporate ways to decrease the severity of daily activities that can worsen fibro-specific leg pain.

Often, at the end of a given day, the pain of fibromyalgia in the legs may be even greater than the upper body pain. Although they certainly relate to each other, after spending a lot of time sitting or at a job or a computer, legs and tendons are often the first to be affected.

It is important to know that these are the daily activities that can be harmful to a fibro and unconditioned body through safe and effective exercises. There are some activities in everyday life such as cleaning a tub or lifting heavy objects incorrectly, which can actually be harmful to a fibro body, while physical training focuses on actually ‘protecting’ the body and building a body. strength and foundation.

What about sensitive areas and bruises?

Bruising and tenderness can occur with leg pain, especially if you have a tendency to varicose veins that cause increased pressure around these vulnerable areas. Although we want to be careful of any invasive procedure for vein health, it may be helpful to resolve whether bulging veins or varicose veins become more prominent. This can happen to both men and women.

Some Other Treatments of Symptoms for Fibromyalgia Leg Pain

Myofascial treatment

It may be helpful to experiment with light “rolling” on a foam roller or working with a therapist who has experience in myofascial release. It does not always have to be extremely painful for the “work” of these areas, but there is a benefit in learning to work with these affected points / areas in a way that is curative, not harmful to the fibro body.

Bowen therapy    performed by a trained Bowen therapist can also be very beneficial. With Bowen’s therapy, the body learns to adjust and relax muscle stimulation and release. Many people report positive results from Bowen’s therapy and we recommend that you take a test.

The sensitive points Treatment

Another useful Rx is to    wear compression wear    on the legs and knees when needed, even before and after exercise. We have experimented with different types of compression in recent years by wearing compression socks, sleeves and also making our own cut of old socks and other pieces of material to find what works best at different compression rates. This can increase circulation, relieve “sensitive” tendons and relieve pain in the affected areas.

Back pain is obviously a different subject from the pain in the legs of fibromyalgia except in one aspect. Lumbar pain often involves the sciatic nerve which can reduce severe pain in one leg or another.

I have recently experienced a particular type of pressure point therapy that provides considerable relief. It’s nature pillows    “beActive”   orthopedic device. I like to wear it at night and sometimes all night long, I think the truth is that I have less low back pain and legs in the morning.

If you are severely affected by fibromyalgia leg pain, there are many ways to support this area through the movement, strength and range of focus of movement exercises.

Medications often used to treat pain (salt bath, natural anti-inflammatory of any kind, light massage, etc.) may be helpful to us, but it is really essential to create and use a consistent reconditioning program. any level is possible for each fiber body.
