One of the members of our closed group shared this story with us and asked us to publish it to spread our disease. This is what you should know about people with fibromyalgia.
1. My pain
My pain is not your pain It is not caused by inflammation. Taking your medicine for arthritis will not help me. I can not ease my pain or shake it. It is not even a pain that remains. Today is on my shoulder, but tomorrow it may be on my foot or gone. It is believed that my pain is caused by inadequate signals sent to the brain, possibly due to sleep disturbances. It is not well understood, but it is real.
2. My fatigue
I’m not just tired. I am often in a severe state of exhaustion. You may want to participate in physical activities, but I can not. Please do not take this personally If yesterday you saw me shopping at the mall, but today I can not help you with the work in the garden, it’s not because I do not want to. Most likely, I am paying the price for stressing my muscles beyond their capacity.
3. My forgetfulness
Those who suffer it we call fibrofog. I may not remember your name, but I remember you. You may not remember what I promised to do for you, although you told me a few seconds ago. My problem has nothing to do with my age, but it can be related to lack of sleep. I do not have a selective memory. On some days, I simply do not have any short-term memory at all.
4. My clumsiness
If I tiptoe or stumble with you five times in a crowd, I’m not directing you deliberately. I do not have muscle control for that. If you are behind me on the stairs, be patient. These days, I take life and the stairs step by step.
5. My sensitivities –
I can not stand it! “This” could be any number of things: bright sunlight, loud or sharp noises, smells. FMS has been called the “aggravating disorder of everything.” So do not make me open the curtains or hear your son scream. I really can not stand it.
6. My intolerance
I can not stand the heat either. Or humidity If I am a man, I sweat … profusely. If I’m a lady, I transpire. Both are equally embarrassing, so do not feel obligated to point out this inconvenience. I know. And do not be surprised if I tremble uncontrollably when it’s cold. I also do not tolerate the cold. My internal thermostat is broken and nobody knows how to fix it.
7. My depression
Yes, there are days when I would prefer to stay in bed or at home or die. Severe and unrelenting pain can cause depression. Your sincere concern and understanding can get me off the edge. Your sarcastic comments can take me to the limit.
8. My stress
My body does not handle stress well. If I have to quit my job, work part time or manage my responsibilities from home, I’m not lazy. The daily tensions worsen my symptoms and can completely incapacitate me.
9. My weight
I can be fat or I can be skinny. Either way, it is not by choice. My body is not your body My appestat is broken, and no one can tell me how to fix it.
10. My good days
If you see me smiling and functioning normally, do not assume I’m fine. I suffer from a chronic pain and a fatigue disease without a cure. I can have my good days or weeks or even months. In fact, good morning are the ones that help me move forward.
11. My uniqueness
Even those who suffer from FMS are not the same. That means that I can not have all the problems mentioned above. I have pain above and below the waist and on both sides of my body, which has lasted a long time. You may have migraines, hip pain or shoulder or knee pain, but I do not have exactly the same pain as any other person.
12. My disability
My disability is invisible but it still exists. It is the same that you do not see air, but it is present, the same happens with fibromyalgia, it exists, it is real. Not everything is in our heads, if it was then, why do not I put something on my head that is more recognizable as cancer, etc. We put this decal of Fibromyalgia disability in their cars and spread awareness fibro.
